Woodland Sunrise...

Happy Friday,

I am continuing my journey through dies I have bought but not used and today its the turn of the Press Cut Woodland Scene.  I bought this die at a show when I first demonstrated for the Art of Craft as I simply fell for the frame however I never got around to using it!

I thought this technique of using Scraper board to die cut the frame and woodland scene would be perfect.

I cut the frame die in copper scraper board and lightly sanded it to bring out the embossed patterns. I mounted this over a black frame cut using the rectangular die in the set.

I then cut the same die in black and copper coloured card mounting each one behind the other slightly to give a shadow effect.

I mounted this over a background I made using dye based ink pads in red and yellow giving the sunrise effect as shown.

I finished the card as shown using more layers of black copper and white.

Ive made quite a few different cards with this die so expect it to keep popping up!

Enjoy...

  5. Hi John, What a fabulous card. I have to admit that I have no idea what scraper board is but then again, there are so many things about card making that don't know anything about. Regardless the design is stunning.

  7. Very dramatic. I bought some scraper card a while back as I thought it would work really well with some of the dies I have but I haven't actually used it yet. Takes me back to my childhood when we used to just scrape our own pictures using a stick or an old pen nib.
    Have a great day.
    Happy crafting.

It's quite a departure for you so perhaps that's why some folk aren't quite sure. I personally love the drama of the card and the frame is perfect for the image. I think we're starting a scraper board revival between us lol!

What a beautiful card, I can see why you fell in love with this die. Now who would have thought of using scraper board! (You of course!), just what we need to bring out the inner child in us all. It's good to see you enjoying craft and the things you've bought but not used.

  27. Very dramatic, a lovely die but its the sunset in the background that gives the drama I thing. Scraper card is something I have never bought and not sure I would use it if I did, though it has worked extremely well for this card.

    Lots of hugs

  44. Hello John,
This is such a different card from you today but really lovely! I've never used scraperboard / scratchboard but I had heard of it. At that time you used an old fashioned pen nib to scratch into the board! I'm sure I have a mask somewhere of similar trees! Thank you for making us think about new things to try or old ones to revisit! Much appreciated!
    Have a lovely weekend!

  48. John you have been showing stunning cards these last few weeks. It's so lovely to see you making cards with dies from other companies. To many crafters stick to one. I have been away on holiday and google keeps playing up so couldn't comment. At least I could enjoy seeing your wonderful makes. Hazel
